Cowlah, as I have affectionately nicknamed, rolled through Darkshore to Shatterspear war Camp and the tremendous bounty of mining and herbing nodes surrounded by friendly mobs. Oh happy day and easy leveling. In 10 more levels I can add archaeology to herbing, mining, and exploring on my list of exp gainers.
I also got to speak to Brian over at Wow pacifst (link to his site should be on the right hand side). We shared tips on how to earn exp without dealing damage and I look forward to his new toon, Flos hitting 85.
I also got to meet up with some of the writers for wow insider and a few fellow world of warcraft players. It was pretty swank jazz bar/club and it was fun to see the regular patrons interact with the "nerds" assembled.
I promise I'll get back to adding the other characters tot he resolutions screen.
And as a final note CERRANDER IS LEVEL 85!!!!!!

2011 Resolutions, KT Bank Alts
I've decided that I care about the toons on Kel'Thuzad enough to break them out into separate posts. This also means you, the reader, isn't critted with wall of text. (but who am I kidding that's mostly to help me since I'm the only non-crawler robot who reads this.)
The major characters on this server are constantly getting worked on, so doing goals for them will be more extensive. Cerrander (who hopefully will be lvl 84 by tonight so he can get the spell dps valentines neck piece before it goes away) and Lightshonor will each have their own dedicated page. For example I just finished one of Lightshonor's goals in getting an argent charger (yay me, now I can ride through Baradin in style) The final eight will be two a post. Today we'll get the two bank alts on the server and possibly the two new cata toons. I would also like to note that I deleted one bank alt and spread his stuff to the new cata toons.
But no more book keeping, Onwards past the jump to the bank alts.

2011 Resolutions, Volume 7
This is the king. Kel'Thuzad. My home realm. This is where I party. Where I spend most of my time and do most of my hardcore playing. I have my only top level toon as well as the second of three over level 80 toons.
Last year's post was crappy because the previous website I used sucked. I lost all the hard work I went through. This year will be all new, so no red text anywhere. Just the post as it was meant to be. I'm even giving resolutions for my bank alts. Yessir party coming up.
I'll post this up soon, as I really should be working, but I'll set you up with the names at the very least.
Jump ahead for awesome!

I had a male orc hunter named Crukie I was using to test out how hard it was to level using just the starting gear. Naked troll did this for the most part already. And it was a little tough. So I bailed on it to make a cooler Cataclysm toon.
So on to the quick and dirty.
2011 Resolutions, Volume 5
You may notice that some of these characters are not active. Frankly, they fall far down the totem.

Cerrander, My Main Mage
So I have a mage and his name is Cerrander. He is my main. Though he's not the first to 85 on my account.
That's right, the very first character I really cared about is still only level 83 (though now he's wearing one of those sharp black mage hats from final fantasy). I had a little bit of an identity crisis. I usually float around from one character to another, but Cerrander's my boy. What happened? I tried to lead a guild. Word to the wise, don't lead a guild unless you have lots of time or officers that have a bit of time.
I rushed Lightshonor, who also is a guildmaster up to 85 so I could do things with my guild. We couldn't get more than three 85s on at a time and eventually work started kicking my butt.
Now that I'm 85 and not certain my comp can handle heroics, I'll probably switch to hitting up my main main. I'm not a huge fan of the end game. I really enjoy building things up and endgame has always been fine-tuning. I like fine-tuning from time to time, but I get more enjoyment over starting completely new.
Once I'm finished with the resolution posts I'll identify a top 5 each week for toons I want to play, and also post the top five I actually played. We'll see how that goes.

Luckily I only did two servers, because the first one I reviewed last year, Steamwhedle Cartel grew to be my secondary server. It now houses five toons. I've also kept my original observations about the Armory and wowhead from last year, though the new armory view will not be up to snuff until you can change the pose again.

I actually purged one both toons on the one server and added a toon to the other two servers, so these are all three-character servers.

Lightshonor, So Damn Lucky
So here I am, another day another mount.
So many people boo-hooed about not getting the Random Number Generator Gods to drop their Headless Horseman mount but Lightshonor was able to get one. Cerrander, my main, did not get the drop though he did get the brewfest ram.
So yesterday I started to do the Elders for the lunar festival. I was doing them for home city rep, but found out they only effect the secret full faction rep. No individual increases, at least up to friendly. So as I was flying around trying to get Northrend elders and finishing tournament dailies, I stopped by Valkyron, or whatever the warrior woman town in Storm Peaks is called and picked up a bag. Guess what I got in that one bag? Boom. Polar Bear. Not too shabby. RNG has been kind to me, not perfect, but kind. An epic ring dropped for me while doing Tol Barad dailies, but the Zul'Gurub mounts never dropped when I went in, and neither has the deathchargers reins in several many runs.
Oh well I'd rather have some luck thatn no luck at all.

2011 Resolutions, Volume 2
This is the one that had all the one per server characters I had. Some of these servers are bereft of toons, after I hit the 50 on an account wall in Cataclysm and deleted some of my toons.
Once again, last year's content is in black. Update for 2011 are in red.

2011 Resolutions, Volume 1
On my Previous blog I outlined all my alts and what I wanted to do with them in the coming year. Well time is a fickle mistress. I've done some of the things I set out to do and haven't done most of the things I wanted to do. The first group I showcased was what was to be my Horde main. It's still my highest non-dk Horde character, but I didn't get very far.
My old resolutions are in black, my responses to those feats and my updated resolutions are in red

Carlah, Apprentice Archeologist
Carlah got some mothballs until recently when gathering became a huge source of exp. Instead of doing many if any quests from this point on, I'll be leveling up solely from picking flowers and doing archeology digs. Already I jumped up a few levels. It was once again exciting! hopefully I can get to a level high enough to start picking out rare rewards. It's a good feeling to be getting rewarded with purples for things other than killing.
Carlah, Vegan Pacifist
| ![]() |
I read about Noor and Reinisch at Wowinsider (now wow.com) and further follow ups at their website http://pacifistundeadpriest.blogspot.com/. The idea intrigued me and I thought it would be a great challenge to attempt.
So I rolled a human priest on Kirin Tor, a realm with great RP history, and where I rolled my first character, Sherfandrago. I randomized the name and was pretty shocked to see such a normal sounding name as Carlah available so I jumped on it.
To preface this, I originally started a Night elf druid, I then realized that nearly every quest in that starting area required me to kill something. That druid turned into Talucian, who will become a DEHTA based druid, but that?s a story for another entry.
When I read pacifist, I wasn't excited about both Noor and Reinisch's use of force in leveling. Mariam Webster defines pacism as 1: opposition to war or violence as a means of settling disputes ; specifically : refusal to bear arms on moral or religious grounds. Therefore any use of violence to finish a quest or achieve a goal seemed wrong.
So I vowed to level to 80 without raising my weapon and attacking anything. Period. In this age of wowarmory and all sorts of stat tracking for this game, I figured I could state my claim pretty easily.
EDIT: I found a rouge named Lintilla, who had attempted the same sort of thing. She has long since gone dormant. Her face shows up on wowarmory, but there are no stats or gear available. I am happy to pick up where she left off. She got to level 21. Hopefully I can get farther.
I had also wanted to do this earlier before I read about Noor and Reinisch, on my preist Mariele. Dreams of starting a guild called "First Do No Harm," where all we did was heal was the goal. Then I read about the two and thought Mariele was great fit. I looked back and realized I was very wrong. Mariele had already been just a simple alt, wrack up kills and earn exp. The game is designed to level by killing things. Most quests are based on that and rested exp and heirloom design only give kill bonus exp. So I knew that Mariele was useless at this point and that Carlah would be hard work.
Carlah ran into some quick issues. Each starting zone has one quest to unlock most of the other strting quests and all of these require me killing things. The humans have a lot of go here get this, or talk to him and then bring a note to her. However, it was tough work findingteh right quests. Mad props to wowhead for sortable lists of quests though, it really was a lifesaver. Some do require a look through the comments to look for hidden pre-reqs or whether loot needed to finish quests were from killing creatures or from world objects.
Between five different starting zones I found enough quests and exploring exp to get me to level 10ish. Once or twice I needed to explore a nearby region to level up high enough to get the next quest but I've done pretty well.
Noblegarden and especially the firefestival have been a blessing. I should gain at least two more levels by finishing the Azeroth and Kalimdor quests.
The preist has worked out well and pyschic scream is completely necessary. PW: Shield, Renew, Lifeblood (from herbalism), and innerfire are all the spells you need to survive. Most of the time you will be up against red or yellow mobs and simply need to run away to reset combat.
The real question is how far can this go. I don't want to hurt anything, but can I watch other people hurt this. I know I get honorable kills from BGs and it feels wrong to be party to murder, even if I don't hurt them. Grouping too can earn me kills and again this means I profit from killing things.
Do I compromise and still stick to the fact that I have only ever dealt 3 damage my entire /played (I ended up right clicking a lasher who walked over my peacebloom as I clicked)? That I have no killing blows at all?
These are questions for another post I guess, and comments would be nice to help me figure it all out. For now I'm just going to keep on trucking, leveling without killing or hurting anything.

Mariele, Warrior Preistess
|
Mariele was probably the second character I created. I wanted to have her lead a guild called "First Do No Harm" which would be a guild made up completely of only people who heal.
Such a thing would not be very sensical now that I am a wizened (and three and half year) WoW vet. When I moved from Kiron Tor to Kel'Thuzad to play with my friends and housemates I left Mariele to collect dust, along with my dashing dwarven rouge Shefandrago. When I started the complete pacifist project, I immediately thought of Mariele who I wanted to use ina similar fashion anyway. But silly WoW noob me had already leveled her to 12 by killing things.
At that point I rolled a fresh character on Kirin Tor in Carlah to level to 80 without killing anything ( I unfortunately have two accidental kills from escort quests and that danged stalvan, but am loving the candy exp of Hallow's) and realized Mariele was just another toon I had randomized the name for.
But then patch 3.2 rolled around and I salivated at the challenge of leveling up a toon just in pvp exp. Of course! Mariele can be Carlah's dark elf mirror! A character that only levels by causing misery to other players. It wouldn't be scientific or anything since It wasn't a fresh character but there would be rules.
#1. No quests not marked as PvP (though I did take enough candy from buckets to get G.N.E.R.D. Rage)
#2. Only explore to get to to bg gear vendors.
#3. Only get exp by completing PvP objectives (such as BG exp) or PvP quest objectives (win the towers, collecting eternal embers from wintergrasp mobs). This means no grinding mobs anywhere for exp.
Believe it or not, fishing has turned out to be a decent money maker for me as I wait for queues. Without grinding mobs and turning in more than the daily, money was getting scarce. Fishing up tattered cloth all of sudden allowed me to train more trade and class skills, thanks vendor trash! Enchanting and Inscription have also eased my gold issues.
As a final note I am so happy they have put back the Insignia at it's new cost.
Thrall, Not Wearing Lvl 40 Greens
| comments (0) |
"Lolz Thralls only wearing level 40 greenz. Noobxors!!!111!!1!11!!"
But on a more serious note some people have voiced their marked distaste about Thrall, the leader of the Horde, and his lack of a visual update.
I have two theories as to why he's wearing a bunch of gear you might be able to pick up along the way in vanilla WoW. The first takes a logical look at the situation using established game practices and the second uses lore and a recently implemented feature to explain the use of old world models on Thrall (who consequently will always use that character's facial model and haircut, as that is just what Thrall looks like.)
Theory 1: He's wearing endgame gear for the expansion he stopped seriously raiding.
So Thrall belongs to this great guild, The Horde. He's doing the pinnacle of endgame raiding and now he pretty well geared. But then his guild goes through some hard times and Thrall becomes guild master of the Horde. Suddenly he can't raid anywhere near as much between leading one of the biggest guilds in and while Lortemar may do the paperwork, Thrall does all the dirty work, so raiding with the rest of the guild gets difficult.
Why is his gear end game? Well lets look at how the past two expansions have affected the gaming world. Wrath of the Lich King and the Burning Crusade each added 10 levels to the gaming experience, so let's say that each Warcraft expansion added 10 levels to the level cap. So lets count backwards; Wrath 80-70, BC 70-60, WoW classic 60-50 (note many of the major lore character in Classic wow are in this bracket, withholding faction bosses), WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne 50-40, WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos 40-30. This is the place where Thrall had to give up raiding to become guild master. See how he'd only be able to wear level 30-40 gear? (For those of you who are curious this line of thinking does work out. WarCraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal 30-20, WarCraft II: Tides of War 20-10, Warcraft: Orcs and Humans 10-0.)
So there is a pretty solid theory. Of course you may ask why is some of his gear green if he was a hardcore raider? He should be wearing dungeon blues. So it would appear there is at least one flaw in this theory. So on we go to Theory two.
Theory 2: Those aren't greens they are actually heirlooms.
Ah, now doesn't that make sense? Why upgrade your gear when it automatically upgrades as you level? The lore is also there to support the function as heirlooms. The gear he wears and the Doomhammer itself were passed on to Thrall by Orgrim Doomhammer and if a new Warchief is crowned I would expect Thrall to part with some or all of the gear to the new Warchief. While the concept of heirlooms as we know them are pretty new, we've been passing down items to our alts and succesors since vanilla WoW. The WarCraft three gear was also not bind on equip so you could pass your +14 attack claw on to the lower level hero you just acquired.
So what does this mean for the character model for Thrall in the future? It could bode well once Cataclysm hits and Garrosh becomes the Warchief. Garrosh would abandon the Wrath gear you can't see through his tabard anyway so he could wear the black plate of Doomhammer, though Garrosh would proabably still dual wield axes. This leaves The opportunity to get a graphical gear upgrade, something along the lines of his Escape from Durnholde gear but snazzier and more along the lines of a new Guardian of Trisfal.
